Philip A. Davidson M.D. graduated with high honors from Harvard University and earned a Medical Degree with honors in research from Cornell University Medical College. His Orthopaedic training was at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He went on to complete a Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the nationally renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Davidson is the team Orthopaedist for several area high school and collegiate teams. He is an Orthopaedic consultant to the PGA and Major League Baseball Player’s Association. He was nominated by the Governor to serve as an expert medical adviser for the State of Florida Workers’ Compensation Board. His areas of specialized clinical interest include injuries of the shoulder and disorders of the knee, particularly cartilage repair and reconstruction. Dr. Davidson is widely recognized for his expertise in cartilage restoration, including meniscal transplantation and biological restoration of cartilage injuries in the knee. Dr. Davidson receives referrals from specialists nationally and internationally to consult on and treat patients with complex problems.
A respected author and scholar, Dr. Davidson is involved in ongoing clinical and basic science research, dealing with injuries and problems related to the shoulder and knee. Dr. Davidson serves as the lead investigator for many clinical trials and gained much recognition for his extensive research and many innovations. Dr. Davidson lectures frequently, and has been a distinguished visiting professor at many universities in the United States and abroad. Dr. Davidson is the Director of the Orthopaedic Institute of the Americas, the clinical and research teaching unit responsible for education of many visiting Orthopaedic surgeons each year. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and multiple medical societies. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Davidson joined the practice in 1993. Dr. Davidson is the Chief Executive Officer of the Tampa Bay Specialty Surgery Center. He and his wife, Ruth, are parents of three boys and reside in St. Petersburg.
