Nigel W. Sparks, M.D.


Nigel W. Sparks was born in Nova Scotia, Canada. He graduated from Penn State University and earned his medical degree from Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Sparks completed his surgical internship and residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He also completed fellowship in Sports Medicine at UHZ Sports Medicine in Coral Gables, Florida, where he served as a team orthopaedist for the University of Miami and Florida International University.

With a deeply grounded interest in sports medicine, Dr. Sparks offers care from an athlete to an athlete.  Dr. Sparks has excelled in soccer on the collegiate, professional and international levels, earning such accolades as 1992 Big Ten Player of the Year, Academic and Athletic College All-American status, and was a former member of the Canadian Olympic Team.

A respected member of the orthopaedic community, Dr. Sparks has authored and co-authored many articles, conducted research, and given presentations both on local and national levels.  His area of focus is ligament and tendon reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle.  He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.  He is board eligible by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Sparks joined the practice in 2006 and lives in Pinellas County with his wife, Sarah, and their son.
